Mikaela Siegel was a two-time state hurdles champion for the Siuslaw Vikings.

Now she's a first-year member of the Oregon State women's rowing team.

She's also a star in the classroom as well as in sports. The 2016 Siuslaw High School valedictorian was on the Oregon State honor roll this fall with a straight-A average.

Siegel studies biology with a pre-med option.

Her brother Reese, also a 2016 Siuslaw graduate, and a multi-sport standout, had a straight-A average at Oregon State in the University Exploratory Studies Program.

The rowing season launches Saturday with the Spring Kickoff Dinner at Reser Stadium. The first race is the Longhorn Invitational, March 25, at Austin, Texas.
