Vikings' Huff, Lane advance to semifinals


Siuslaw Vikings junior Richard Huff and senior Kainan Lane had two pins each Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Oregon School Activities Association Class 4A wrestling championships in Portland.

Championship semifinals and finals are Saturday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Two other Vikings — sophomore Riley Jennings and senior Nick Steinman — were eliminated from the tournament Friday.

Huff, the top seed at 113 pounds, pinned Colton West of Marshfield in 1 minute, 40 seconds and Jarrett Graff of Corbett in 5:01.

Huff will battle Sweet Home sophomore Robert Watkins, the No. 5 seed, in the semifinals Saturday morning.

Marshfield sophomore Frankie Harlow and Molalla freshman Maximus Tate meet in the other semifinal.

Lane, the No. 5 seed at 285, pinned Miguel Galindo of Ontario in 2:32 and Rogelio Ramirez of North Marion in 3:51.

Lane will face No. 1 seed Dylan Porter of Elmira in the semifinals.

The other 285 semifinals pits Junction City junior John Dover against McLoughlin/Weston McEwen senior Donnie Clark.

Siuslaw totaled 27 points to stand 12th among 38 Class 4A teams after the first day of competition.

Sweet Home led with 95 points, followed buy Crook County with 90.5 and Marshfield with 75.5.
