Newport ends Siuslaw's season, 58-41

There was no retribution Friday for the Siuslaw Vikings boys basketball team in their rematch with the Newport Cubs.

The Cubs, who won an early-season game at Newport, 62-53, ran off with a 58-41 victory in an Oregon School Activities Association Class 4A play-in game at Glenn Butler Court.

The Cubs advance to a first-round game, likely next Friday at Gladstone.

The Vikings finish their first year under coach Dylan Perry with a 10-14 record. Siuslaw was 1-21 last season.

Friday, junior Kyle King scored a team-high 14 points and junior Trent Reavis pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds to lead the Vikings.

Siuslaw hit 17 of 28 free throws in the game and 12 of 38 field goals.
