Vikings' Huff in finals, Lane places fifth


Siuslaw Vikings junior Richard Huff dominated Sweet Home sophomore Robert Watkins in the 113-pound semifinals Saturday morning to gain the championship match of the Oregon School Activities Association Class 4A wrestling tournament in Portland.

Meanwhile, Siuslaw senior Kainan Lane was pinned by top seed Dylan Porter, an Elmira senior, in 1:31 to drop into the consolation round. Lane pinned No. 2 seed Donnie Clark of McLoughlin/Weston McEwen in 1 minute, 40 seconds for fifth place.

Huff, the top seed at 113, defeated the No. 5 seeded Watkins by major decision, 13-3. Huff will face freshman Maximus Tate of Molalla in the finals.

Tate beat Marshfield sophomore Frankie Harlow in the semifinals, 10-6.

The Vikings' Riley Jennings and Nick Steinman were eliminated Friday.
