The Siuslaw Vikings softball team will wait to Tuesday, March 21, at Sutherlin to launch the 2017 season.

The Vikings were to have opened at the Newport Jamboree, but the event was cancelled Tuesday, March 14.

The Vikings, who began practice Feb. 27, will play their first home game on March 25, a doubleheader with Bandon.

Siuslaw is expected to return a strong battery in pitcher Heidi Jones and catcher Nikki Launius, two seniors who have worked together since seventh grade.

Top returning players include infielders Jenicah Ecker, Chehalis Stinger and Claire Waggoner and outfielders Auriel Hager-Tolle and Kathryn Dodson.

The Vikings are coached by Sean O'Mara. Assistant coaches are Jamie Hunt, Jodi O'Mara and Kim Gibson.

Siuslaw was 7-15 overall and 4-11 in the Far West League last spring.
