Vikings' Oliver posts state bests in 2 events


Siuslaw senior Carissa Oliver won the shot put and discus and placed third in the javelin.

Siuslaw senior Carissa Oliver posted Class 4A state bests in both the girls shot put and discus Thursday to highlight action in the rain-bedeviled Siuslaw Icebreaker track and field meet at Hans Petersen Field.

Oliver won the shot put in 38 feet, 7 inches and the discus in 127-6. Oliver also placed third in the javelin in a personal-best 94-7.

In other top marks by Siuslaw athletes:

> Senior Clark Hooper swept the hurdles races, winning the 110-meter event in a state-best 16.00a seconds and the 300 in 47.75a, third-best in the state so far this season.

> Junior Trent Reavis won the shot put in 46-11 and the discus in 139-2, both marks second in the state so far this season. Reavis was third in the javelin at 151-10, with freshman Ryan Rendon-Padilla second in 158-6.

> Senior Destinie Tatum, the defending girls 4A state champion at 800 meters, won the 400 in 1:05.49a and finished second in the high jump at 4-6.

> Two-time state cross country champion Celie Mans, a senior, won the 1,500 in 4:58.16a, with freshman Hannah Rannow second in 5:24.96a. Mans' time is No. 2 in the state among 4A runners this spring, while Rannow is No. 8.

> Freshman Anne Wartnik won the 3,000 in 12:48.61a, the eighth-best time in the state among 4A runners this spring.

> Junior Kaylee Graham was second in both hurdles, clocking 18.17a in the 100 and 52.80a in the 300.

> Senior Abby Watkiins was second in the 100 in 14.36a and second in the long jump at 15-1.5.

> Junior Quincy Rusk was second at 100 meters in 12.27a.

> Sophomore Kaeli Ramos was second in the 200 in a personal-best 29.98a.

> Freshman Brendon Jensen was second at 800 meters in 2:12.26a.

> Junior Isaac Griffes was second in the 3,000 in 10:01.88a.

> Sophomore Calin Mason was second in the javelin at 95-1.

> Sophomore Madison Reynolds was third in the shot put at 32-2.

> Junior Roen Rolling-Khufu was third in the 200 in 25.95a.

> Senior Jack Pickell was third at 1,500 meters in 4:32.11a.

> Junior Kyle King was third in the triple jump at 38-1.5.
