The Sweet Home Huskies erupted for 14 runs in the bottom of the second inning Thursday en route to a 24-5 nonleague softball victory over the visiting Siuslaw Vikings.

Siuslaw, 1-1 on the season, next will host its home opener at 1:30 p.m. Saturday against Bandon. Bandon is 0-1, dropping its season and home opener to Coquille, 13-8, on March 16.

Senior Claire Waggoner was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two stolen bases and senior Jenicah Ecker had a double and three stolen bases for the Vikings.

"In the past two games, Waggoner and Ecker are on an offensive terror," Vikings coach Sean O'Mara said. "They are seeing the ball really well and making solid contact, putting a lot of pressure on the other team's defense."

Siuslaw had 5 runs on 6 hits and took a quick lead in the game with 4 runs in the top of the first inning.

The Vikings committed 7 errors in the game, to 1 by the Huskies.

Siuslaw senior pitcher Heidi Jones had an unusually rough outing, giving up 20 runs on 20 hits and 3 walks in 3 1-3 innings.
