The Siuslaw Vikings baseball team can't seem to catch a break, with either the weatherman or the schedulemaker.

The Vikings (0-7), who have yet to play a home game, will now open Far West League play with a doubleheader Friday at Marshfield, weather permitting.

The thrice-postponed home game with the Pirates will now be played at 1 p.m. Saturday, again weather permitting.

Neither Siuslaw nor Marshfield (1-4-1) has played a home game this season, which began Feb. 27 with the first day of practice.

And neither team has beaten an Oregon school. (The Pirates' lone win was against Ft. Vancouver, WA, at the Seaside Tournament.)

But neither team should be counted out of league title contention in what appears to be a wide-open race to the top.

The six league schools have scuffled to a combined 9-36-1 record to date, with 1-6 North Bend the only team ranked in the Class 4A playoff-contending top 24 by the Oregon School Activities Association.

The Bulldogs are No. 23 as of Sunday, April 9.

No. 27 Douglas is 3-6, No. 28 Brookings-Harbor 3-5 and No. 37 South Umpqua 1-8.

Siuslaw is ranked No. 31, while the Pirates are ranked last among 4A schools at No. 40.
