The Siuslaw Vikings softball team now will play its thrice-postponed Far West League opener at 5 p.m. Friday at Marshfield.

Saturday, the Vikings will host Marshfield in a doubleheader starting at noon.

Siuslaw is 3-6 entering league play, with 4 hard-luck, 1-run losses in the past 5 games.

The Vikings are ranked No. 33 among the 40 Class 4A teams by the Oregon School Activities Association.

By rankings alone, it will be a tough slog for the Vikings in league.

South Umpqua is 9-0 and ranked No. 1, while Marshfield is 6-3 and ranked No. 11.

North Bend is 6-4 and ranked No. 12, Douglas 1-4 and ranked No. 16 and Brookings-Harbor 4-3 and ranked No. 21.

The Vikings are battle-tested with 7 seniors on the 11-player roster, including their starting batterymates, pitcher Heidi Jones and Nikki Launius.

The infield features seniors at first (Claire Waggoner), second (Jenicah Ecker) and third (Sara Keel), while seniors Katherine Dodson and Chehalis Stinger contribute in the outfield.

The balance of the roster includes juniors Ariel Rosinbaum, Katlin Meskimen and Abby Coday and freshman Mia Collins.
