Are you ready for a trip to Rogue River?

There is a new twist for Siuslaw High School as the Oregon School Activities Association ponders reconfiguring athletic leagues for fall 2018.

It's called the Umpqua Valley Conference, a six-school league running from Siuslaw to Rogue River, a school more than 170 miles and 3 hours from Florence.

Other schools would include Coquille, Douglas, South Umpqua and Sutherlin.

In this model, Brookings-Harbor, Marshfield and North Bend would remain in the Far West League and be joined by Cottage Grove, Hidden Valley and North Valley.

The new proposed league comes as the OSAA's committee and redistricting committee puts a 6-classification model back on the table.

This particular proposal (Draft No. 15) comes in response to Monday's contentious open meeting during which smaller schools panned a 5-classification model (Draft No. 13) endorsed by the committee.

The committee also offered a revised 5-classification model (Draft No. 14), which keeps the Vikings in the same league as Draft 13.

In that model, Siuslaw returns to the Sky-Em League and is joined by Creswelll, Elmira, Harrisburg, Junction City, La Pine, Philomath, Pleasant Hill and Sisters.

La Pine and Sisters represent 3-hour trips, one way.

In Draft No. 14, Marshfield and North Bend would be assigned to the Midwestern League with Churchill, Cottage Grove, Marist, North Eu;gene and Springfield.

Brookings-Harbor, Douglas and South Umqua would be in the 3A Southern Cascade League with Cascade Christian (Medford), Hidden Valley, North Valley, Sutherlin and St. Mary's (Medford).
