When Siuslaw pitcher Heidi Jones isn't wheeling and dealing, she's either stealing bases or legging out extra bases.

Friday, the senior righthander limited the Marshfield Pirates to a pair of unearned runs and scored twice herself as the Vikings opened Far West League softball play with a 3-2 victory in Coos Bay.

Siuslaw hosts Marshfield in a doubleheader at noon Saturday in Florence.

Jones was in the middle of the action most of the game Friday for the Vikings.

In the top of the first, she legged out a bunt single, stole second, advanced to third base on the overthrow and scored the game's first run with a delayed steal of home.

In the top of the fourth, with the Vikings down 2-1, Jones bunted again, racing around to third on a three-base throwing error by the Pirates' pitcher. Vikings catcher Nikki Launius got Jones home with a hit and later scored the go-ahead run on a groundout by Abby Coday.

On the mound, Jones held Marshfield to 2 hits, struck out 5 and retired the last 10 Pirates batters.

The win snapped a 5-game losing streak by the Vikings, who are now 4-6 overall. Marshfield is 6-4.
