It's a Riddle when, where Vikings will play
Siuslaw senior first baseman Brogan Cornish delivered a clutch hit in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Vikings to victory. The Siuslaw Vikings and South Umpqua Lancers have had their games rescheduled many times. And that was just Thursday.
Today, the Far West League baseball rivals are scheduled to play a doubleheader at noon at Ridde. Coast Radio will air the games starting at 11:45 a.m.
The Vikings have a makeup game with the Lancers at 5 p.m. Monday at Jiggs Dodson Field.
The two teams originally were scheduled to play Tuesday in Florence. That game was moved to Thursday.
Then the game was moved from Florence to South Umpqua. Then to Riddle. Then called off Thursday when officials were found to be unavailable.
Friday's games were orginally scheduled for Tri City, moved to Medford, and then to Riddle.
The Vikings earned their first win of the season last Friday, but they had to work overtime to do it.
Siuslaw senior first baseman Brogan Cornish drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Vikings beat visiting Douglas 8-7 in the first game of a doubleheader.
Douglas won the nightcap, 5-2.
The win in the opener was the Vikings' first of a weather-challenged spring, one in which the team has practiced outdoors only twice since the season began Feb. 27.
The doubleheader split left Siuslaw 1-12 overall and tied with Brookings-Harbor in league at 1-5.
Douglas is 7-8 and 4-2, alone in second place. North Bend leads the league at 6-0, while Marshfield and South Umpqua are each 3-3.
The Vikings close the season with three-game series with Brookings-Harbor (May 2 and May 5) and North Bend (May 8 and May 11).
