Vikings off to Grants Pass for Saturday meet


Siuslaw senior Abby Watkins won both the long jump and triple jump Tuesday at the Far West League JV meet in Douglas.

Siuslaw senior Abby Watkins won the long jump and triple jump and freshman Hannah Rannow won the 800 meters and 1,500 Tuesday as the Vikings girls captured the Far West League junior varsity track and field meet at Douglas High School in Winston.

The Siuslaw girls totaled 159 points for first, followed by North Bend with 119, Douglas with 64, Camas Valley with 42, South Umpqua with 34 and Days Creek with 3.

Vikings junior Carissa Oliver dominated the discus, but was second in a mild upset in the shot put to Douglas senior Darian Mitchell. Mitchell went 37-6, Oliver 37-1.

The North Bend boys won the team title with 175 points, with Siuslaw second with 139 points. Douglas had 126, Camas Valley 93, South Umpqua 21 and Days Creek 6.

For the Vikings boys, junior Trent Reavis won the shot put and discus and senior Clark Hooper the 110 and 300 hurdles.

The Siuslaw varsity will be in action Saturday at the 68th annual Grants Pass Rotary Invitational.
