Vikings to compete at Cottage Grove today


Senior Carissa Oliver tossed the discus a PR 135 feet, 10 inches, the state's second-best Class 4A mark in the event this season.

Siuslaw senior Carissa Oliver and junior Trent Reavis won the shot put and discus Tuesday at the Far West League junior varsity track and field meet at North Bend.

Oliver and Reavis will be attempting to win district titles a week from Friday at the same venue.

Oliver won the discus with a personal-record throw of 135 feet, 10 inches and the shot put at 40-1.

Reavis won the discus at 151-4, the shot put at 50-8.5 and placed third in the javelin at 156-9.25.

In other top girls marks by the Vikings:

  • Senior Destinie Tatum won the 400 meters in 1 minute, 3.39a seconds and was second in the 200 with a season-best 28.66a.
  • Freshman Anne Wartnik won the 1,500 in 5:44.13a and freshman Chloe Madden was third in 5:59.34a.
  • Senior Abby Watkins won the long jump at 14-10.25.
  • Sophomore Madison Reynolds was second in the shot put with a personal-record 34-9.5.
  • Freshman Hannah Rannow was second in the 800 in a personal-record 2:30.77a.

In other top boys marks for the Vikings:

  • Senior Clark Hooper won the 300-meter hurdles in a personal-record 41.62a and placed second in the 110 hurdles in 15.71a.
  • Freshman Ryan Rendon-Padilla won the javelin at 158-8.25.
  • Junior KC Tatum had a PR 129-8 for second in the discus and a PR 42-3 for fourth in the shot put.
  • Senior Jack Pickell ran a PR 4:21.79a for second in the 1,500.
  • Junior Isaac Griffes ran a PR 9:52.45 for third in the 3,000.
  • Senior Kyle King was third in the triple jump at 39-1.
  • Freshman Brendon Jensen ran a PR 2:07.72a for third in the 800.

The Vikings varsity will be at Cottage Grove on Friday for the Wally Ciochetti Invitational.

The Far West League championships are Friday, May 12, at North Bend.
