Carissa Oliver wins shot, discus with PRs


Siuslaw senior Carissa Oliver set personal records Friday in winning both the shot put and the discus at the Wally Ciochetti Invitational.

Siuslaw senior Carissa Oliver posted personal records to win both the girls shot put and discus Friday at the Wally Ciochetti Invitational track and field meet in Cottage Grove.

Junior Trent Reavis won the boys shot put and freshman Hannah Rannow won the girls 3,000 meters for the Vikings.

The Siuslaw girls placed fifth among 16 schools with 66 points, while the boys were eighth among 17 schools with 44.

For the girls:

  • Oliver won the shot put at 41 feet, 7.5 inches and the discus at 136-5 for 20 team points.
  • Rannow won the 3,000 in 11 minutes, 44.77a seconds and finished fourth in the 1,500 in 5:20.50a for 15 team points.
  • Freshman Anne Wartnik ran personal records to finish second in the 3,000 in 11:45.40a and eighth in the 1,500 in 5:26.01a for 9 team points.
  • Sophomore Madison Reynolds was second in the shot put with a personal-record 36-7.5 for 8 team points.
  • Senior Destinie Tatum was third in the 800 in 2:23.83a for 6 team points.
  • Senior Celie Mans was fourth in the 800 in a season-best 2:25.34a for 5 team points.
  • Senior Abby Watkins was sixth in the long jump at 15-3 for 3 team points.

For the boys:

  • Reavis won the shot put at 50-2, was second in the discus at 147-11 and seventh in the javelin at 157-0 for 20 team points.
  • Senior Clark Hooper was fourth in the 300 hurdles in a personal-record 41.54a  and sixth in the 110 hurdles in 16.34a for 8 team points.
  • Senior Jack Pickell was third in the 3,000 in 9:31.02a for 6 team points.
  • Freshman Ryan Rendon-Padilla was fourth in the javelin at 163-0 for 5 team points.
  • Junior Kyle King was fourth in the triple jump at 39-7 for 4 team points.
  • Junior KC Tatum was eighth in the discus at 122-1 for 1 team point.

The Vikings head to North Bend this coming Friday and Saturday for the Far West League championships.

The state championships are the following weekend, May 19-20, at Hayward Field in Eugene.

The girls 800 was one of the featured events, won by Scappoose junior Linnaea Kavulich in a personal-record 2:20.65, with Bandon junior Sailor Hutton second in 2:21.90a. Tatum is the defending 4A state champion at the distance. ...
