Lady Vikings gear up for summer league


Girls coach Clint Tatum will have to replace some key seniors, including his daughter, Destinie, who led the Vikings in scoring.

Siuslaw girls summer league basketball gets underway Monday, May 22, at the high school's Glenn Butler Court, coach Clint Tatum announced.

"First practice will be right after school," Tatum said. "Following practices will be determined then."

Other key dates for the Lady Vikings include:

  • June 2 — Blue-Gold Game, Glenn Butler Court, 4:30 p.m.
  • June 18-22 — Western Oregon University team camp
  • June 26-29 — Home camp (new philosophy)
  • June 30 — Shoot-A-thon to raise money for future camps

"There will be games played, but we do not have a schedule put together at this time," Tatum said.

Returning players would include seniors-to-be Carreina Greenburg and Marika White, juniors-to-be Zoe Leech, Hailee Edgerly, Alyssa Richards and Madison Reynolds and sophomore-to-be Mia Collins.

Tough-to-replace graduating seniors include Nikki Launius, Brittany Long, Destinie Tatum, Claire Waggoner and Abby Watkins.

Junior varsity coach is Greg Reynolds.

First practice for next season is Monday, Nov. 13.
