Siuslaw graduate Joe Dotson posted personal bests in three of five events Friday to place second in the NAIA decathlon championships at Gulf Shores, Alabama.

The Southern Oregon University sophomore had a personal-best 6,732 points to finish behind the 6,855 by senior Drew Gandy of Central Methodist (Fayette, Missouri).

Dotson earned NAIA All-American honors for a second year in a row.

Dotson had PRs in the 110-meter hurdles, the javelin and the 1,500 meters Friday. He was in ninth place after Thursday's first five events, despite personal bests in the long jump and the 400.

Dotson, on Day 1 (Thursday, May 25):

Dotson was fifth place last season with a season-high 6,484 points.
