The Siuslaw Vikings boys basketball team was a surprising second place this past season in Dylan Perry's first year as head coach.

And they could be the team to beat when they open what may be their final season as a member of the Far West League.

First practice is Monday, Nov. 13.

The Vikings will tip off the 2017-18 season at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Creswell in a nonleague game.

League play begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, when Siuslaw hosts Marshfield at Glenn Butler Court.

Perry and the Vikings will be looking to build on a 10-14 overall record and 5-5 in league.

Siuslaw returns four league all-stars, all seniors, in first-team Trent Reavis, second-team Kyle King and honorable mention Jared Brandt and Jake Hickson.

Brandt also was a member of the league's all-defensive team.

Siuslaw likely will be playing in the Far West League for the last time, at least for the four-year block that begins in the fall of 2018.

Recent reclassification models by the Oregon School Activities Association have the Vikings playing in either a four-school or six-school Umpqua River Conference by fall 2018.

Many of next season's Vikings varsity players are participating in the Siuslaw summer league team.
