Medalists Scott Kennon of Bandon and Cassie Kim of Yakima, Wash., have advanced to the quarterfinals of the PNGA junior amateur championships at Sandpines Golf Links in Florence.

Stroke play was Monday and Tuesday in the five-day event, with match play Wednesday through Friday.

Kennon was the only member of the top four boys seeds to move to Thursday's quarterfinals. Kennon and Nate Stember of Portland are the only Oregon golfers alive in the championship flight.

Kennon beat No. 32 seed Will Alexander of Chehalis, Wash., 5 and 4 in the Round of 32 and No. 16 seed Ian Siebers of Bellevue, Wash., 3 and 2 in the Round of 16 to advance.

Kim led a charge of all four top seeds into the girls quarterfinals. No Oregon golfers advanced to the final eight.

Championship finals in both divisions are Friday, the boys teeing off at 7:30 a.m. and the girls at 8:42 a.m.
