Vikings fall to unpleasant Billies, 45-18

Senior quarterback Jared Brandt ran for one touchdown and passed for another Friday against Pleasant Hill.

Sophomore Cody Morrell and senior Collin Good each scored twice Friday to power the Pleasant Hill Billies to a 45-18 victory over the host Siuslaw Vikings in a nonleague football game at Hans Petersen Field.

Siuslaw, 0-2, with both losses at home, travels to Newport this coming Friday for the final nonleague game of the season. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Pleasant Hill, 1-1, a Class 3A school, will host Class 2A Waldport on Friday.

The Vikings offense, shut down in a 50-0 loss to Elmira in the opener, showed signs of life Friday, especially in the first half when Siuslaw held 6-0 and 12-6 lead.

Siuslaw went 78 yards in 11 plays in the opening drive, capped by senior running back Quincy Rusk's 2-yard run for a touchdown with 8:09 left in the first quarter.

The attempted point-after kick was foiled by a bad snap. Senior quarterback Jared Brandt was 5-for-5 on the drive for 56 yards, including a 20-yard completion to senior tight end Trent Reavis.

The Billies responded immediately, Morrell blazing 85 yards with the following kickoff to score at 7:51. The point-after kick failed.

Two possessions later, Brandt directed an 8-play, 51-yard scoring drive, bolting the final 3 yards on a keeper at 2:23 of the first quarter. The point-after kick failed.

Siuslaw had its final lead at 12-6.

The Billies took a 13-12 lead into halftime on junior wide receiver Stephen Parmenter's diving catch in the endzone on an 18-yard scoring pass from senior quarterback Wyatt Craig at 8:57 of the second quarter.

Amanda Whetten, a 5-foot-3 senior placekicker, connected for the extra point as Pleasant Hill took the lead for good.

Good scored his two touchdowns in the third quarter and Craig ran for a score as the Billies built a 33-12 lead.

Brandt hit Reavis for a 10-yard TD pass at 2:16 of the third quarter as the Vikings cut the deficit to 33-18.

Pleasant Hill posted two more scores in the fourth quarter as both teams played mostly reserves.
