The Siuslaw Vikings enter the home stretch of the football season with games tonight aginst Marshfield and next Friday against South Umpqua at Hans Petersen Field.

Siuslaw closes its season Oct. 20 at Brookings-Harbor. Kickoff for all three games is 7 p.m.

The Vikings (0-5) are looking to bounce back from last Friday's cancelled game at North Bend. Siuslaw forfeited the game for safety concerns.

"Safety and the well-being of my student-athletes is my main priority," Vikings coach Jamin Pool wrote on the Siuslaw football app.

"Putting our young team against North Bend's varsity would not be safe."

The winless Vikings have been beset by injuries, illness and player losses.

Siuslaw is down to 32 varsity players, with just five seniors.

"After a long, challenging discussion between our coaches, we concluded cancelling this Friday's game was in the best interest of our players," Pool wrote.

"Over the last week our team has dealt with varying adversities. From kids quitting, to injuries, to new players, our team is young and low in numbers."
