Siuslaw boys first, girls second at Philomath


The Siuslaw Vikings boys cross country team posted a dominating win Saturday at the Paul Mariman Invitational in Philomath.

The Siuslaw Vikings captured the varsity boys division and finished second in the varsity girls division Saturday at the annual Paul Mariman Invitational cross country meet in Philomath.

Siuslaw had 60 points to runnerup Cottage Grove's 110 in the 13-school boys race, while Siuslaw had 59 points to 37 by Scappoose in the 10-school girls race.

Four of the top five Vikings boys and as well as four of the top five Vikings girls set personal records at the 5,000-meter distance.

For the boys, sophomore Brendon Jensen was fifth overall in a PR 17 minutes, 5.23 seconds, followed by senior Isaac Griffes in a PR 17:17.17, sophomore Jonah Jarman in a PR 17:23.35, sophomore Kiger Johnson in a season-best 17:44.89 and senior Jordan Northrop in a PR 18:03.01.

For the girls, sophomore Hannah Rannow was third overall in a PR 19:39.56, followed by freshman Brea Blankenship in a PR 20:42.02, sophomore Chloe Madden in a PR 21:33.90, sophomore Anne Wartnik in 21:39.73 and freshman Gracie Freudenthal in a PR 21:52.14.

Only four dates remain on the calendar for the Vikings, beginning this coming Saturday with the George Fox Classic at Willamette Mission State Park in Gervais.

Siuslaw's annual run for the Brownies is Oct. 19 at Sandpines Golf Links.

The Far West League championships are Oct. 26 at Tugman State Park, hosted this year by Siuslaw.

The season concludes with the Oregon School Activities Association state championships on Nov. 4 at Lane Community College in Eugene.
