Vikings still alive for Class 4A play-in match

The Siuslaw Vikings girls volleyball team still has a shot at the Class 4A playoffs, but will be at the mercy of the final Oregon School Activities Association rankings.

The Vikings were swept by South Umpqua on Thursday night in Tri City, 3-0, to finish Far West League play 5-5.

Siuslaw, 9-9 overall, is scheduled to play in the Marshfield Invitational on Saturday.

Marshfield and South Umpqua finished in a tie for first place, each 8-2. The two teams meet Tuesday in Coquille in a playoff that will determine the league's top seed.

Tuesday's winner will have a bye into the first round of the playoffs, while the loser will host a play-in game.

North Bend, which beat Douglas 3-2 Thursday to finish 7-3 in league, will be on the road for a play-in game.

Siuslaw, which entered the night ranked No. 21 in the state, must finish in the top 24 to grab a road play-in game.

The final rankings "freeze" at 10 p.m. this coming Tuesday.
