Vikings girls finish third in George Fox event

The Siuslaw girls' top five finishers each posted a personal record Saturday as the Vikings finished third in the varsity silver division of the George Fox Cross Country Classic at Willamette Mission State Park, north of Salem.

Sophomore Hannah Rannow finished the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 13.15 seconds, followed by freshman Brea Blankenship in 20:05.43, sophomore Chloe Madden in 20:57.32, sophomore Anne Wartnik in 21:10.00 and freshman Gracie Freudenthal in 21:16.93.

Rannow has the top time among Far West League girls this season, while Blankenship is No. 3.

The Vikings had 115 points to 65 by first-place North Salem, a 6A school, and 81 by Hermiston, a 5A school.

Churchill, a 5A school, was fourth among 14 schools with 140 points.

Siuslaw's boys were fifth among 17 schools in the silver division, with sophomore Brendon Jensen the top Viking in a PR 16:45.91.

Senior Isaac Griffes ran a PR 16:47.35, sophomore Jonah Jarman a PR 17:17.65, sophomore Kiger Johnson a 17:44.95 and senior Jordan Northrop a PR 17:58.97.

Jensen, Griffes and Jarman own the top three times in the Far West League this season, with Jarman sharing third with Zachary Abblitt of Brookings-Harbor.

Ridgefield, Wash., was first with 85 points, followed by Washougal, Wash., 102, Dallas 126, Valley Catholic 142 and Siuslaw 167.

Siuslaw hosts the annual Run for the Brownies this coming Thursday at Sandpines Golf Links.

The Far West League championships are Thursday, Oct. 26, at Tugman State Park, hosted this year by Siuslaw.

The Oregon School Activities Association state championships are Nov. 4 at Lane Community College in Eugene.
