Jensen, Rannow run off with the brownies

Siuslaw Vikings sophomores Brendon Jensen and Hannah Rannow won titles Thursday in the annual 3,000-meter Run for the Brownies at Sandpines Golf Links.

Jensen finished first overall in a time of 10 minutes, 18 seconds for the 3,000-meter course, while Rannow was the first girl and eighth overall in 11:17.

The event was the final tuneup for the Far West League championships this coming Thursday (Oct. 26) at Tugman State Park, just north of North Bend.

Siuslaw is the host school this season, which will be the last for the league.

Siuslaw and Marshfield will join the Sky-Em League next year, while North Bend will be in the Class 5A Midwestern League and Brookings-Harbor, Douglas and South Umpqua in the Class 3A Umpqua River Conference.

The Vikings will be favorites to sweep both the boys and girls titles in district, based on Athletic.net's hypothetical meet using best times.

Siuslaw's boys would finish 1, 2, 3, 11 and 13 for 30 points, while Marshfield would be second with 51 and North Bend third with 76.

Siuslaw's girls would finish 1, 3, 8, 9, 10 for 31 points, with South Umpqua second with 55.

The top two teams in both the boys and girls divisions advance to state.

The OSAA Class 4A championships are Saturday, Nov. 4, at Lane Community College in Eugene.
