Five schools sign up for Siuslaw Icebreaker

Five schools are confirmed for the Siuslaw Icebreaker that kicks off the 2019 Vikings track and field season Thursday, March 21, at Hans Petersen Field.

Field events start at 3:30 p.m., track events at 4 p.m.

Siuslaw is the only Class 4A school in the field, and North Bend the only 5A school.

Also entered are 1A Mapleton, 2A Coquille and 3A schools Douglas.

The Vikings feature two returning state champions in juniors Hannah Rannow and Ryan Rendon-Padilla.

Rannow won the 4A girls 800 meters in a personal-record 2 minutes, 18.54a seconds.

Rendon-Padilla won the 4A javelin with a PR 181 feet, 7 inches.

Siuslaw's other featured home meet is the Central Coast Invitational, Friday, April 19.

The Vikings also will compete in the Marist Track Classic (Eugene) on April 6, the Prefontaine Rotary Invitational (Coos Bay) on April 13 and the Wally Ciochetti Invitational on May 3.

The Sky-Em League district championships are Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, at Marist High School.

The state championships are Friday and Saturday, May 17-18, at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham.

Returning boys who qualified for state in 2018: Brendon Jensen (1,500; 3,000), Ryan Jennings (300 hurdles), Ryan Rendon-Padilla (javelin).

Returning girls who qualified for state in 2018: Hannah Rannow (800; 1,500; 4x400 relay), Brea Blankenship (1,500; 4x400 relay), Anne Wartnik (1,500), Gracie Freudenthal (100 hurdles; 300 hurdles; 4x400 relays), Madison Reynolds (shot put), Andrea Osbon (shot put; discus), Naomi Shoji (4x400 relay).
