Marist senior guard Max Whittaker pumped in 27 points Tuesday to lead the Marist Spartans to a 68-40 victory over the Siuslaw Vikings in a Sky-Em League boys basketball game in Eugene.

Siuslaw, 0-2 in league and 5-11 overall, plays Friday at Marshfield. Tipoff is 5:45 p.m.

Freshman Braydon Thornton and senior Nick Swift led Vikings scoring with 9 points each.

Marist improved to 2-0 in league and 9-6 overall.

Siuslaw stayed close for most of the first half, forging a 17-17 tie.

Marist went on a 16-4 run to close the half, taking a 33-21 lead.

Senior Dylan Wynn nailed a 3-point goal to start the second half, cutting the lead to single digits, 33-24.

That was as close as Siuslaw would get the remainder of the game.

Marist cleared its bench in the fourth quarter, and 14 Spartans eventually contributed points in the win.

In other Sky-Em action Tuesday, Marshfield won at Cottage Grove, 50-40, and Junction City beat visiting Elmira, 57-51.

In other league games Friday, Marist visits Junction City and Cottage Grove hosts Elmira.
