Vikings hope to take the fast lane to state

The Siuslaw Vikings boys and girls bowling teams will have the home lane advantage for this season's state tournament.

That's because the District 4 qualifying event is Saturday and Sunday at Holiday Bowl, 1710 27th, in Florence.

The Vikings boys are hoping to get back to state after a year's absence, while the Vikings girls will try to improve on last year's second-place finish at state.

Bowlers get rolling at 9 a.m. both days.

And the price is right: There is no admission charge.

Some 10 schools will be competing in each division, with the top three girls teams and top three boys teams advancing to state.

The state tournament will be Feb. 23-24 at AMF Firebird Lanes, 4303 Center St. NE, Salem.

Bryan Roberts of North Bend is district coordinator for this weekend's qualifying.
