Vikings cheerleaders qualify for state finals

Siuslaw Vikings cheerleading coach Diane Conlee has worked her magic once again.

The 2018 Siuslaw Hall of Fame inductee has another team competing in the state championships.

The Vikings are one of 10 schools in Class 4A to qualify for the Oregon School Activities Association state championships Saturday, Feb. 9, at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

Siuslaw is scheduled to perform at 9:20 a.m., the fifth of 46 schools in the competition from 1A to 6A.

The Vikings have their photo shoot at 8:05 a.m., with a check-in at 8:50 a.m. and practice at 8:55 a.m.

Doors to the venue open at 8:15 a.m., with the first performance at 9 a.m.

Cottage Grove is the only other Sky-Em League school to qualify.

Other 4A qualifiers include Cascade, Estacada, Gladstone, Newport, Ontario, Sisters, Stayton and Sweet Home.

Henley won last year, followed by Newport, Cottage Grove, Sisters and Sweet Home. Siuslaw did not qualify.

The Vikings last competed in the state championships in 2017, when they were 11th of 13 qualifiers.

This year's squad includes freshmen Arianna Brown, Brooke Olson and Kelly Phillips, sophomores Leana Jagoe and Adria Sandusky and seniors Danielle Goldblatt, Grace Hammonds and Desteny Johnson.
