The Siuslaw Youth Soccer Association has a lot on its plate as it prepares to serve up another spring season.

The buffet includes a push for all-girls teams, registration for spring leagues, the annual meeting and elections and continued support of Siuslaw Vikings soccer.

All-girls exhibition games are planned for this spring.

"As we look to the future, the SYSA board is going to be putting more emphasis on girls teams within our club," the SYSA said in a press release.

"Our hope is to form all-girls teams within our club framework starting in the fall. We will be reaching out to players and their families, and encourage them to reach out to us as well."

Meanwhile, registration continues for this spring. Early registration closes March 11. Fee is $55, with scholarships available. (Late registration ends March 15, with a $75 fee and no scholarships.)

Practices begin after spring break. Games will be played Saturdays, April 13 through June 1, with a break May 18 for Rhody Days.

The club's annual general meeting is 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Bromley Room at the Siuslaw Library.

Included on the agenda are updates on club business and policy changes, plus voting for two board positions.

With soccer being embraced at the high school level, the SYSA will focus on 14-under players while helping nurture the more competitive brand played under the Oregon School Activities Association umbrella.

Siuslaw High School fielded its first team last fall, a mix of boys and girls playing on the same team at a junior varsity level. This coming fall, the Vikings will field a boys varsity that will compete in the Sky-Em League.
