Tough day for Lady Vikings at state qualifier


Siuslaw's four entries in the girls state wrestling qualifier each suffered losses Friday at Thurston High School in Springfield.

Freshmen Hayden Muller and Bailey Overton and junior Kinga Bugajska remain alive in consolation, while sophomore Adriana Edwards lost her two matches and was eliminated.

Muller was the only Lady Viking to win her first-round match, pinning Grant Union's Sydney Brockway in 2 minutes, 52 seconds in a 130-pound match.

Muller then lost in the quarterfinals to Elexis Walker of Douglas/Camas Valley, 13-8. Muller bounced back by pinning Henley's Chantel Ramirez in 3:42.

Overton, the No. 3 seed at 115, lost her first-round match to Bend sophomore Jordan Taylor by sudden victory -1, 5-3.

Overton remained in contention for third place with two pins in consolation, beating Faith Hansel of South Medford in 5:11 and Kora Lynch of South Eugene in 58 seconds.

Edwards was pinned in both her matches at 130, losing to Mazama's Natanee Campbell in the first round in 1:50 and to Cottage Grove's Hannah Cook in consolation in 2:34.

Bugajska, an exchange student from Poland, was pinned by Maya Lindskog of North Eugene in their first-round match at 140 in 5:03. Bugajska followed by pinning Thurston's Asha Orlinski in consolation in 1:51.

The champion and runnerup in each weight class will qualify for the Oregon School Activiteis Association all-classifications girls state championships Feb. 22-23 in Portland.
