Pelicans thwart error-prone Vikings, 8-7


Vikings senior pitcher Gabe Simington struck out 14 while contributing three RBIs.

Klamath Union plated three runs on 1 hit, 2 walks and 4 Siuslaw errors in the bottom of the seventh inning Saturday to rally past the Vikings, 8-7, in a nonleague baseball game in Klamath Falls.

The Pelicans rolled in the second game of the doubleheader, 11-0.

The losses dropped Siuslaw to 1-5 overall. Klamath Union improved to 3-2.

Vikings starting Gabe Simington, a senior at Mapleton, struck out 14 Pelicans in the opener in 5 2-3 innings, with 69 of his 109 pitches strikes.

Simington also had a double and 3 RBIs while hitting cleanup.

Siuslaw pounded 12 hits, two each by Elijah Blankenship, Caleb Hennessee, Henry Rankin and Clay Kramer.

Sophomore right fielder Jacob Cook was 2-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs to lead Klamath Union.

Details of the second game were not available.

Siuslaw has one game next week during spring break, hosting Nea-Kah-Nie at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dodson Field.
