Phoenix snapped a scoreless tie with six runs in the top of the fifth inning in the opener Saturday, rolling to a sweep of the Siuslaw Vikings in a non league softball doubleheader at the Siuslaw Softball Field.

The Pirates won the first game 10-2 and the second 18-6.

Siuslaw fell to 0-6 for the season, while Phoenix improved to 5-0. The Pirates have scored 73 runs in those five games, while giving up 24.

"The scores may not reflect the growth the Vikings are showing," Siuslaw coach Sean O'Mara, noting he starts a freshman and two sophomores in the infield.

"The Vikings continue to swing the bats and work at aggressive base running, trying to get more prepared for the difficult league opponents that are only a couple of weeks away."

Siuslaw hosts Douglas (0-4) in a doubleheader Tuesday, April 2, to complete preleague play.

The Lady Vikings open Sky-Em League play Tuesday, April 9, at Marist Catholic.

In Saturday's opener, Siuslaw junior Nina Aaron was 3-for-3 with a double, run scored and stolen base, while senior Alyssa Richards was 2-for-3.

In the second game, Siuslaw sophomore Liz Garcia was 2-for-3 with a double, 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Aaron was 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored and an RBI, Richards 1-1 with an RBI.

Aaron went the distance in both games, striking out six.

The Lady Vikings committed 11 errors in the doubleheader, including six in the second game. Phoenix committed but one error on the day.
