Siuslaw stranded the tying and winning runs in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday as Neah-Kah-Nie held on for a 5-4 nonleague baseball triumph at the Siuslaw junior varsity field.

The Vikings fell to 1-6 with their sixth loss in a row. The 2A Pirates improved to 6-0.

"I felt we did a better job of swinging the bats in this game," Siuslaw coach Tom Shinn said. "We only had five hits to show for it, but Neah-Kah-Nie made some very nice catches in the outfield."

Neah-Kah-Nie employed five pitchers in the game, with AJ Pieper picking up the win and Joshua Longfellow holding on for the save.

Sophomore pitcher Dalton Stinger went the distance for the Vikings, striking out 5, walking 2, while allowing 7 hits and 5 runs, 2 earned.

"I was proud of how well Dalton Stinger threw the ball in this game," Shinn said. "We have used him mostly in the relief role previously, so it was nice to see him respond well when given the opportunity to start."

Stinger threw 104 pitches in the game, 66 for strikes.

The top three batters provided most of the offense for the Vikings, leadoff hitter Elijah Blankenship with a double and run scored, Jared Northrop with two runs scored and Chayton James going 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Siuslaw wraps up preleague play Tuesday, April 2, hosting Douglas in a doubleheader at Dodson Field.

The Vikings open Sky-Em League play Tuesday, April 9, at Marist Catholic in Eugene.
