Lady Vikings conquer Cottage Grove, 11-1

Siuslaw junior Nina Aaron pitched a three-hit complete game and the Vikings pounded 13 hits Wednesday to post an 11-1 victory over Cottage Grove in a Sky-Em League girls softball game at the Siuslaw Softball Field.

"Overall, I was proud of the athletes for continuing to work hard through the challenges over the last month of games," Siuslaw coach Sean O'Mara remarked. "We continue to focus on attitude and effort each day.

"Today, before the game, I asked the athletes to be their best self today before each pitch and the girls really came through on both defense and offense.

"I look forward to seeing how we deal with future challenges as we get closer to being halfway through league play."

The Lady Vikings, 1-3 in league and 1-9 overall, travel to Elmira on Thursday for a league doubleheader. First pitch is 3 p.m.

Sophomore Liz Garcia-Galvan and senior Lupita Figueroa drove in two runs each to power the Siuslaw offense.

Garcia-Galvan was 3-for-4 with a run and a double, while Figueroa was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Aaron was 2-for-2 with a triple, while senior battery mate Alexis Smith was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run.

Senior Alyssa Richards was 2-for-4 with a run, RBI and stolen base, while freshman Bailey Overton was 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and stolen base.

The game ended on the 10-run mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI by senior Audrey Lowder.
