The Marist Spartans exploded for 42 runs over 10 innings Friday to sweep a Sky-Em League softball doubleheader at Siuslaw, 14-1 and 28-2 in a pair of five-inning games shortened by the 10-run rule.

The Lady Vikings, 1-8 in league and 1-14 overall, are on the road next week, with a game Tuesday at Junction City and a doubleheader Friday at Cottage Grove.

Siuslaw closes its season the following week with three home games, Tuesday, May 7, against Elmira and a doubleheader Friday, May 10, against Marshfield.

Marist, ranked No. 8 in OSAA 4A, improved to a league-leading 10-0 and 16-2 overall.

Junior catcher Abby Doerr was 4-for-4 with 4 RBIs, 2 doubles and 3 runs scored to power the Spartans in the opener.

Sophomore Lizbeth Garcia had a double and senior Hayley Meier a single for the Vikings hits.

In the nightcap, Doerr was 5-for-6 with 4 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs and a home run. Senior Maggie Stephenson was 4-for-5 with 8 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

Freshman Bailey Overton, senior Lexie Smith and senior Lupita Figueroa each had a single for the Vikings.
