Junction City erupted for eight runs in the second inning and another seven in the third en route to a 17-0 victory over the visiting Siuslaw Vikings in a Sky-Em League baseball game Tuesday.

Siuslaw, 0-10 in league and 1-16 overall, plays a doubleheader Friday at Cottage Grove. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The No. 7 Tigers, 8-2 and 14-4, play a twin bill Friday at Marist Catholic in a battle of the league's top two teams.

Elijah Blankenship, Chayton James and Zach Stinger each had a single to account for Siuslaw's three hits.

"Junction City hit the ball very well," Siuslaw coach Tom Shinn said. "One of the things we have been working on is eliminating strikeouts and putting the ball in play, which I thought we did a little better with today.

"We only had six strikeouts as a team and only one of them was a strikeout looking."

The Vikings employed four pitchers who combined to give up 10 hits — to 10 different Tigers — and 13 walks over four innings of work.

The game ended after 4 1-2 innings because of the 10-run rule.

Siuslaw closes its season next week with a home game Tuesday against Elmira and a home doubleheader Friday, May 10, against Marshfield.

The Vikings will honor their three seniors — Tim Lowder, Gabe Simington and Jordan Taniguchi — between games.
