Siuslaw Middle School eighth-grader Sam Ulrich ran the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 11.09 seconds Thursday to place eighth in the Oregon Middle School Meet of Champions at Corvallis High School.
Five Vikings eighth-grade boys competed in the elite event, which featured 55 boys teams and 62 girls teams. No Lady Vikings qualified.
Ulrich was the only member of the Siuslaw team to score.
Jonathan Rose was ninth in the discus at 117 feet even, while Jaden Welker ran a personal-record 25.96a in the 200 prelims, but did not qualify for the finals.
The Vikings 4x100 relay team of Welker, Preston Theiman, Ulrich and Noel Hernandez finished 11th in 48.29a, breaking the school record by .95 seconds, according to coach Sean Michael Campbell.
