Florence golfer Bob Rannow shot a 1-over-par 71 Thursday in the first round of the U.S. Senior Open at the Warren Course at Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

Steve Stricker and defending champion David Toms share the lead at 8-under 62.

Rannow, 50, the PGA pro at Ocean Dunes Golf Links, tees off at 10:16 a.m. PDT Friday looking to make the cut for weekend play. The low 60 and ties play the final 36 holes.

Rannow should still be on the course in round two when Fox Sports 1 begins its national broadcast at noon.

Rannow's playing partners for the first two rounds, PGA pro Jon Fiedler and amateur Eddie Hargett, finished their first round at 6-over 76 and 7-over 77, respectively.

Rannow had 15 pars, 2 bogeys and a birdie in the first round. He bogeyed hole No. 5, a 240-yard par 3, and hole No. 13, a 364-yard par 4. He shot a birdie 3 on hole No. 14, a 455-yard par 4.
