The Siuslaw Vikings volleyball team tonight hosts Marist Catholic, which is the oddest team in the Sky-Em League, recordwise.

First serve Is 6:30 p.m. The junior varsity match is 5 p.m.

Marist Catholic, at 1-6, is the only team in the league with a losing record. That win however was a 3-0 sweep of Elmira in their league opener, and now the Lady Spartans share first place with Cottage Grove and Junction City at 1-0.

The Lady Vikings are 5-4 for the season after winning two of three matches this past weekend at the Sisters Tournament. Marist Catholic lost its one match at Sisters, 2-0 to Philomath.

Siuslaw, Elmira and Marshfield are each 0-1 in league.

Marist Catholic opened its season 0-5, with three of those losses 3-0 sweeps to 4A No. 1 ranked Valley Catholic, No. 2 Sisters and No. 4 Hidden Valley.

Siuslaw and Marist Catholic split league matches last season in the Lady Vikings' first year back in the Sky-Em League. Siuslaw lost 3-2 at Marist Catholic and won 3-1 at Glenn Butler Court, sweeping the final three sets.

In other league matches today, Cottage Grove is at Marshfield and Junction City is at Elmira.

Thursday, Siuslaw is at Marshfield, Marist Catholic at Junction City and Cottage Grove at Elmira.

The Lady Vikings currently are ranked No. 14 in Class 4A by the Oregon School Activities Association.

Junction City is No. 5, Cottage Grove No. 12, Marshfield No. 13, Marist Catholic No. 20 and Elmira No. 29.

VOLLEYBALL VIKINGS GET NEW VOICE

Siuslaw High School has a Facebook feature called Staff Spotlight, and this week cited Chuck Johnson, new to the school and the new "Voice of the Vikings" at volleyball games.

Johnson has joined the high school staff as a member of the health and physical education department, and the school notes he has "volunteered in several capacities."
