Lacouture rushes into Vikings record book

Siuslaw sophomore Camp Lacouture

Siuslaw Camp Lacouture appears to be in a rush to establish himself as one of the top offensive threats in Vikings football history.

Saturday, the 5-foot-8, 170-pound sophomore ran for 251 yards and four touchdowns to lead Siuslaw to a 48-46 victory over the McLoughlin Pioneers at Madras.

Lacouture bolted into the top 10 for single-game efforts, replacing Guy Mamac at No. 10 all-time for the Vikings. Mamac went for 246 yards in 1998 against Coquille.

Lacouture has rushed for 531 yards on 62 carries while scoring six rushing touchdowns through four games. He also is 2-for-2 passing for a pair of touchdowns, both to sophomore wideout Braydon Thornton.

Friday, Lacouture and the Vikings will begin their run through 3A Special District 2 North, hosting the Harrisburg Eagles at 7 p.m. at Hans Petersen Memorial Field.

Siuslaw finished preleague play 3-1, all against 4A competition, while Harrisburg was 2-2, all against 3A schools.

Last season, the Vikings' first in the 3A league, Siuslaw was 0-5 and was outscored 248-52. The Eagles contributed to that with a 63-7 romp at Harrisburg.

Harrisburg has wins over Blanchet Catholic (27-0) and Douglas (28-12) and losses to Taft (14-6) and Cascade Christian (49-0).

Following Harrisburg, the Vikings will play at Santiam Christian, which is off to a 4-0 start and has outscored its opponents 175-15.
