It cannot be written in stone, but you likely can pencil in sand, a Siuslaw Vikings volleyball state play-in game on or before Tuesday, Oct. 29.

And the likely foe is the No. 10-ranked Philomath Warriors of the Oregon West Conference.

Tuesday, the Lady Vikings completed regular-season play with a 3-0 loss at home to the Sky-Em League champion Junction City Tigers.

Junction City won 25-21, 25-22, 25-10 to finish 10-0 in league and grab the Sky-Em's top seed in the Oregon School Athletic Association Class 4A state playoffs.

Cottage Grove and Marshfield play at 6:30 p.m. today at Siuslaw High School for the league's No. 2 seed.

The top two teams from each of the six 4A leagues are automatic qualifiers. Eight more teams, based on rankings, will qualify for play-in games.

Siuslaw is firmly lodged as No. 18 in the rankings, the seventh of the eight, while Philomath is No. 10, the second of eight.

Currently (as of 6 a.m. today), the eight, in order, are Astoria (1), Philomath (2), Tillamook (3), Stayton (4), Marshfield (5), Molalla (6), Siuslaw (7) and Seaside (8).

In that scenario, No. 2 (Philomath) hosts 7 (Siuslaw), while 1 hosts 8, 3 hosts 6 and 4 hosts 5.

Philomath has two more matches to play, both league, including a home match tonight against Woodburn and a match Thursday at Newport.
