Athletic.net's hypothetical running of Thursday's Sky-Em League cross country championships at Lane Community College in Eugene is pretty definitive.

Marist Catholic and Siuslaw's boys and girls teams will advance to state as the district's top two teams.

No other teams need apply.

The real drama is which boys team and which girls team will go as district champion.

Hypothetically, that would be Marist Catholic in both cases, according to athletic.net's projections, based on times run this season.

That's where it gets interesting. Runners tend to up their games at district and state, and the Vikings, under coach Chris Johnson, are no exception. In fact, they normally are exceptional, with personal records often set.

Siuslaw has 15 boys entered, seven who will run varsity, eight junior varsity. There are 10 Lady Vikings, seven who will run varsity, three junior varsity.

Marist Catholic and Siuslaw finished 1-2 in both boys and girls races in 2018, with Brendon Jenson fifth among the boys and Rannow third among the girls.

Marist Catholic seniors Evan Villano and Wiley Watts and Cottage Grove senior Jimmy Talley, the defending champion, are favored in the boys individual race.

Rannow, Junction City junior Anika Thompson and Marist Catholic senior McKenna Priske, the defending champion, are favored in the girls individual race.

Race times are noon for the girls varsity final, 12:45 p.m. for the boys varsity final and 1:30 p.m. for both the boys and girls junior varsity finals.

The Oregon School Activities Association Class 4A state meet is Saturday, Nov. 9, at Lane Community College in Eugene.
