The Sutherlin Bulldogs held off a determined Siuslaw Vikings rally Tuesday to score a 42-40 non league boys basketball victory at Glenn Butler Court.

Siuslaw, 0-3, plays Harrisburg at Harrisburg on Thursday on the opening night of the Les Schwab Eagle Booster Club Invitational at Harrisburg.

Tipoff is 7 p.m.

The Vikings also have games Friday and Saturday in the tournament, opponent, time and site to be determined.

Sophomore Braydon Thornton scored a game-high 15 points for the Vikings, who trailed by eight, 31-23, entering the fourth quarter.

Siuslaw outscored Sutherlin 11-4 to slash the deficit to one point, 35-34, with 3:20 to play, but that was as close as it got.

The Vikings had a chance late when the Bulldogs' Jake Merrifield missed two free throws with 4.6 seconds to play, but Siuslaw could not control the rebound and time ran out.

Senior Mason Gill and junior Collin Bodine had 14 points each to lead Sutherlin, which is 3-0 and ranked No. 2 in 3A by the OSAA.

Sophomore Avery Hart added 8 points for Siuslaw, all in the second half, while sophomores Rhys Fleming and Brody Terry had 5 points each.

Juniors Liam McClellan and Elijah Blankenship had 3 points each, while junior Skyler Loomis had 1.

Sutherlin led 11-10 after the first quarter and 20-15 at halftime.

The Vikings outscored the Bulldogs 17-11 in the fourth quarter.
