Vikings rally to nudge South Umpqua, 70-67

The Siuslaw Vikings finished with a 5-0 run in the final minute to pull out a 70-67 victory over the South Umpqua Lancers in a nonleague boys basketball game Friday at Tri-City.

The Vikings, 2-6, next host Douglas in an endowment game this coming Friday at Glenn Butler Court.

"We've been in a lot of games, but we've shot ourselves in the foot," Siuslaw coach Dylan Perry told Coast Radio after the game. "But we never wavered and kept battling. We have to have high energy the whole time."

South Umpqua fell to 1-5 for the season.

Siuslaw sophomore Brody Terry had 17 points, while sophomore Braydon Thornton added 16 and junior Jacob Foskett 12 to lead the Vikings.

South Umpqua freshman Jace Johnson had a game-high 25 points.

The Lancers, who drained a dozen 3-pointers in the game, rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit, 42-28, to take a 61-60 lead early in the fourth quarter.

The Vikings played the final five minutes of the game without Foskett (who fouled out) and Thornton (who was disqualified after picking up his second technical foul).

Siuslaw, ahead 19-17 after the first quarter, built its biggest lead of 16 points, 42-26, late in the second quarter and took a 14-point lead into halftime, 42-28.

The Lancers cut the deficit to five points, 57-52, by dominating the third quarter, 24-15.
