South Umpqua senior Kyla Pires scored 23 points Friday to lead the Lady Lancers to a 48-32 victory over the visiting Siuslaw Vikings in a nonleague girls basketball game.

Siuslaw, 0-8, returns home this coming Friday to play Douglas in an endowment game. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.

South Umpqua, ranked No. 13 in OSAA Class 3A, improved to 7-0.

Siuslaw senior Mia Collins had a team-high 11 points, 9 coming in the fourth quarter after junior Gracie Freudenthal injured an ankle.

Freudenthal, who had 10 rebounds, missed the remainder of the game.

Collins also had 6 rebounds, 6 blocks and a steal.

Junior Brea Blankenship had 9 points for Siuslaw and senior Savannah Morris 6.

South Umpqua led 15-3 after the first quarter, the Lady Vikings failing to make a field goal while going 3 of 6 from the free-throw line.

The Lady Lancers increased their lead to 29-13 at halftime and led 35-20 after three quarters.
