Vikings' Mason Buss captures state berth

Siuslaw freshman wrestler Mason Buss is heading to the state championships.

Saturday, the No. 3-seeded Buss defeated No. 2 seed Connor Ford of Sweet Home in a sudden victory -1, 4-2, in the the OSAA 4A Special District 2 semifinals at 120 pounds.

Buss will face top-seeded Evan Potter, a Junction City junior, in the championship match later Saturday.

Buss is one of seven Vikings who made it to the semifinals of the eight-school regional tournament in Stayton.

Others in championship semifinals include Hunter Petterson (126 pounds), Elijah LaCosse (138), Ryan Jennings (152), Luis Infante-Marquez (182), Christian Newlan (220) and Matthew Horrillo (285).

Still alive in consolation are Yoskar Delamora (106), Cayden Gray (113), Collin Leland (132), Jaime Morales Martin-Mora (132), Michael Shick (145), Louis Gentry (152), Logan Wells (160) and Jason Garcia (170).

Vikings eliminated Friday includes Kyle Hughes (126), Chance O'Brien (138), John Corser (145) and JC Gentry (220).

Special District 2 is one of four districts that will send the top four placers in each weight class to state.

The Oregon School Activities Association state championships are Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-29, at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.
