Vikings clay target team heads to the range
The Siuslaw Vikings' recently formed clay target league team will hold its first team range day Saturday in advance of the nine-week season that begins Monday, March 29.
"I think we have a solid foundation, and I am looking forward to getting the season going," Vikings coach Sean Grundon said.
"I have 18 athletes registered and three more pending — a strong turnout for the first season."
Siuslaw student-athletes have until Monday, March 29 — the first day of practice — to join the team.
Grundon plans to launch a GoFundMe campaign and a league-recommended fundraiser next week.
That's just the start of it.
"I have bids from companies for hats and jerseys and I personally designed custom masks," Grundon said.
"I am working on trying to set up the social media pages. It's a big undertaking starting up a club."
Practices and competitions will be 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays. The first competition is scheduled for Monday, April 19.
