Vikings outdrive Outlaws for 36-19 triumph

Siuslaw seniors Elijah Blankenship and Skyler Loomis had the drives to succeed Friday, leading the Vikings football team to a 36-19 victory over the Sisters Outlaws at Hans Petersen Field.

Blankenship passed for two touchdowns and ran for a third and Loomis had two TDs rushing as the Vikings leveled their league and overall record at 2-2.

Siuslaw hosts Junction City at 7 p.m. Friday in the Vikings' final regular-season game. The Vikings will play a Culminating Week game the following week to close the season.

Friday's game matched two Class 4A schools competing, for now, at the 3A level in football, members of Special District 2 North.

The game also matched several sustained drives, with just one punt and another botched punt, both by the Outlaws.

The Vikings stalled on their opening drive, then scored five touchdowns in their next five possessions, going 57 yards in 10 plays, 37 in 7, 92 in 21, 68 in 13 and 62 in 11.

The Outlaws, taking the ball over on downs on their 37, went 63 yards in 9 plays for a field goal for the game's first points. Sisters scored its two TDs in the second half, going 67 yards in 11 plays and 62 in 9.

Sisters fell to 1-2 in league and 1-3 overall.
