Lady Vikings finish season with 1-14 record

The Siuslaw Vikings softball team ended its season Saturday by dropping a doubleheader at Junction City.

The Lady Tigers won 12-2 and 18-8.

Siuslaw finished its season 1-14 in an all-Sky-Em League schedule. Junction City was 7-8, including a three-game sweep of the regular-season series.

Saturday was the final game for three Lady Vikings — catcher Kya Blake, Adriana Edwards and Lizbeth Garcia-Galvan.

Seven of the 17 players this season were freshmen, including starting pitcher Cate Waggoner.

Junior Maggie Manning also pitched a number of games, and will give Siuslaw two experienced pitchers to start next season, a luxury they didn't have this season.

Manning, shortstop Bailey Overton, center fielder Hayden Muller and outfielder Brooke Olson will be seniors next year.

Sophomores on this year's team included Gillian Norton, Ava Coggins and Bailey Myrick.

Freshmen included Kristin Wall, Meika Shappell, Brynlee Manues, Ashley Hennessee, Rosa Velasco-Mendez, Chloe Aaron and Waggoner.

Marist won the Sky-Em League title with a 15-0 record. The Lady Spartans were 15-1 overall, with the lone loss to Sheldon.

Marshfield was second at 10-5, Elmira third at 9-6, Junction City fourth at 7-8 and Cottage Grove fifth at 3-12.
